Hi! It’s been a while since my last post (actually last year), and this time I’m back with my new role, Product Associate at IDN Media. I wanna share my story of how I become a Timmy (designation for IDN Media employees) in some phase, so let’s check it out!

How it started..

After graduating from Apple Developer Academy in December 2021, I actively looking for opportunities. So, every single day I always look for a job opening on every platform in a product management role and I remember Apple Developer Academy was creating an event called TalentSpark which is an event that connects alumni to many top companies that open vacancies especially in tech and PM role. Then, I changed my strategy and was prepared for that event because I think this is a good chance for me to meet great companies and I think it was a big opportunity for me to get a job in the product management field.

The first thing that I prepared is… portfolio! I realize that I had never jumped into a product management role before, so I recalled again what I’ve done in the academy that relates to product management and thankfully, my last project at the academy is Project Manager of Briday App, So it was much more related to product management itself.

After all the preparation, then I joined TalentSpark 2022 event. There are some big companies from startups, multinational companies, etc. But one of my applications was sent to IDN Media and thank God now I’m here. :)

Why IDN Media?

Actually, I never made a target for a specific company in my career goals. But, I love to make an impact, so as with the company that I want to work in. I want to work in a company that not only focuses on getting profit, but also make an impact on society and I think IDN Media which is the leading media platform company for Millennials and Gen Z in Indonesia fits my goals.

What I’ve learned so far?

There are a lot of lessons learned from my 3 months here (actually, I have been through a probationary period since this published date):

  • Hard skills

For my last 3-months, I was dig-deeper my hard skills, especially in the PM role. There are many differences between tasks in the academy and tasks assigned to me, but I don’t too surprised because I’ve already researched this role from many articles, ask from Apple Developer Academy alumni, and also online courses. Some of the tools that I used for my daily tasks are Confluence, Jira, Figma, Firebase, etc.

  • Soft skills

I also improve my soft skills here and thanks to hybrid working that makes me go to the office, so I can meet with my friends and supervisor in real life. I also had a chance to join the product team to go to the Surabaya office in June 2022. Besides that, now I know how to communicate well with a cross-functional team like the engineering team, marketing team, stakeholders, etc. I also know how to prioritize tasks and find a solution in every blocker I had.

I was really happy to join this company because I learned a lot from every task assigned to me. I also love the environment and all of my friends here.
