Hi! I wanna share with you about my other project in the IDN App. This project is called Referral Program. This project can’t be done without my great teammates in the Volt Team. So, shout out to my friends, mba Aini (PM & my supervisor), mas Coco (tech lead), mas Shofi (back end engineer), mas Riyan & mas Galih (android engineer), mas Suriyadi & mas Steven (iOS engineer), mba Khusniyah (system analyst), mas Herbi & mba Mawar (QA), and mas Gary, mas Ardi, and mba Fitri for the nice design.

ABOUT REFERRAL PROGRAM

Referral Program came as a solution for user acquisition. We gave rewards for referee (new users who got the referral code and submitted it) and the referrer (users who gave their referral code to referee). The more referrer get the referee, the more rewards they will get. For the referee, they will get the rewards if they done the mission (tasks).

RESEARCH PROCESS

We do some research before building this feature, such as data analysis, user interviews, and deep dive business needs. From all of the research processes, we found that the most interesting thing for users to install and use the app is a reward.

After that, I continue to the next step, ideation! First thing first, I benchmark with other competitors (news aggregator apps) to see how they gave their users some rewards with some challenge or task they need to finish and what rewards or benefits they gave to their users.

FIRST STEP

First, I created the user flow. There are 2 flows I created, from the referrer’s side and also the referee’s side. From the referrer’s side, I created a flow on how they can get their referral code (unique code), how they can share the referral code, check their referee’s mission progress, and remind the referee to finish the mission. From the referee’s side, I created a flow on how they can receive the code until they claim it, and how they can enter the mission tab. Also, I created a flow in how both the referrer and referee got the rewards.

FEEDBACK SESSION

After I’d done the first step, I came back to my supervisor and I got some feedback and revised my flow so that I could jump to the next step.

NEXT STEP

Next step after I had done the user flow, I came to the UI/UX team to start the design process. UI designers collaborated with the UX Writer in creating the Lo-fi design and after getting some feedback, they continued with Hi-fi design. After that, the UX researcher does the usability testing. In this phase, we got some feedback and the UI designer revised the design as soon as possible. After all is done, the engineer starts to do the development.

RESULT

After successfully developing and releasing the feature, we can increase the 40% of new organic users during the period. If you are interested in trying this feature, you can download IDN App on iOS and Android to try this feature.

Referral Program IDN App

I really enjoyed and learned a lot of things in developing this feature from how to manage project, collaborate with cross-functional teams, ideation, market analysis, create product requirement document (PRD), and solved user’s problems and pain points. The most important thing, this is the first project that I’ve done with less supervision because my ex-supervisor resigned in the middle of the project and my team and I can deliver as well as expected.
